Is your Website ADA Compliant?

Is your Website ADA Compliant?

We are all familiar with the requirements to ensure our golf facility meets the requirements of the American with Disability Act (ADA) but what about the services we offer? Did you know that your website falls under public services category of the ADA?

We recently received reports from Florida that a number of golf courses are being sued because their website fails to meet ADA requirements. It seems there are agents purportedly representing the disabled community scanning websites and found golf courses as a good target for legal action for non-compliance with the ADA regulations. In most cases, they are eager to settle if golf courses agree to correct their site and pay their legal fees and court cost. Even though most courses have contracted their website design and hosting services they remain responsible for its content and compliance with all State and Federal regulations.

NGCOA has published an article that provides owners and operators with some simple steps they can take to ensure their website is compliant with the most current industry guidelines. While updating your website may take some time, being able to show the courts that you are taking clear steps to correct the deficiency will go a long way in having lawsuits discharged without ever having to go to court.

You may recall in an earlier post, NGCOA reported the U.S. House passed H.R. 620 - ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017. This bill is intended to stop lawsuits such as these. The measure is now in the Senate where it faces an uphill battle.

We encourage you to post your questions or comments directly to this post to help us bring awareness to this industry issue.
